On 19 April 2026, Artists for a Better World, Florida Chapter, Celebrated World Art Day in Style at the Imagine Museum in St Petersburg, Florida
Every year AFABW chooses a theme for World Art Day. This year it was “Celebrate Creative Independence” in honor of the 250 year anniversary of the USA – and a tribute to our vets.
The event started out with Live Painting by Angel Kourkoulou while being accompanied by Roger Harrison on piano. She brought an American Eagle to life on canvas while attendees could see her paint on the big screen.
There was also a reception with the art-work of several of our members: Angel Kourkoulou, Avna Jungen, Eli Berger, Jean Francois Paris, Judy Tanner, Kiana Lewis, Richel Lewis, LD Sledge, Ron Czerniec
David Flatt the Museum Director welcomed everyone, and talked of the Patriotic art display in the gallery, of which several of our members have works. Then he brought up MC for the event which was Richel Lavette Lewis, our FL chapter Director.
The performance part of the event opened with 13 year old Heidi Katz who did an impactful version of the National Anthem as the audience rose.
AFABW Founder Barbara Cordova then talked about World Art Day and how our other chapters were also having events with this same theme. She then brought up Angel for a special painting for AFABW that was unveiled at the event.
Then Megan Brazil and Dolce Roscoe did unique dances to the sculptures of Nina Winters, bringing them to life.
Other performers were David Newey with original songs, Ayden Drake (Kevin Johnson) with patriotic poems, LD Sledge doing Battle Hymn of the Republic, Barbara Cordova with Rob Oliver doing original songs, and grand finale with Steve Cherubino and Katie Nagy doing God Bless America with a sing along.
Wig Adams, Social Reform Director at The Church of Scientology, talked about Human Rights and gave out many books and activated people who want to do activities for Human Rights.
Others wanted to join AFABW and help as volunteers-
Overall it was a hit, with people uplifted and inspired by the event!
